Serena is a Policy Researcher at Acclimatise, specialised in climate change adaptation and finance
She undertakes policy research and analysis as well as provides advisory services on adaptation options and the integration of adaptation into development plans and decision-making processes. Currently, Serena is providing technical assistance to the Governments of Burundi and Ivory Coast to access the GCF Readiness and Preparatory Support Programme and develop their National Adaptation Plans (NAPs). Previously, she contributed to a CDKN-funded project aiming at building readiness of the private sector in Bangladesh to work on climate compatible development and access the GCF. Through this project, Serena had the opportunity of going to Dhaka and present in a workshop on GCF proposal preparation. This project led also to the publication of a Guidebook entitled “GCF Project Toolkit 2017”. Being fluent in English and French, Serena has contributed to various projects aiming at supporting the development of National Adaptation Plans and National Climate Change Strategies in developing countries, including Togo and Morocco.
Before joining Acclimatise, Serena worked on advocacy projects for the integration of human displacement considerations into the National Adaptation Planning process in various countries. Serena has a strong interest in the intersection between climate change and development, as well as in engaging the private sector in adaptation. She worked in both the public and private sectors, and has experience working with international organizations, government ministries, UN agencies, development banks, private companies and NGOs.
Serena holds a BSc and MSc in International Relations and Diplomatic Affairs with focus on Economics and Development Policy from the University of Bologna. She also studied at the Institut d’Etudes Politiques in Strasbourg, France. Serena is a native Italian speaker. She is fluent in English and French, and has working knowledge of Spanish.
