Dr Sara Venturini

Sara is an Acclimatise Associate and founding partner and President of Climalia

Sara is a senior policy advisor on climate change and a development economist, with 9 years of experience advising governments on multilateral environmental agreements and policy processes on climate change at international, European and country level. She specializes in building climate change governance and adaptation planning, and has taken part in numerous scientific projects and cooperation initiatives with national entities, inter-governmental organizations and development partners.

Since the run-up to Copenhagen COP15 in 2009 to Paris COP21 in 2015, she has advised ministerial delegations to the UNFCCC on climate change adaptation, loss and damage and capacity building issues, including the delegation of Seychelles, Comoros, Mauritius and Madagascar, as well as the delegation of Italy.

Prior to founding Climalia, Sara had worked with the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change as scientific manager, the World Meteorological Organization as research fellow at the Disaster Risk Reduction Programme, and the Permanent Mission of Italy in Geneva as assistant to multilateral negotiations. She has interacted with inter-governmental organizations and international conventions’ Secretariats relating to climate (UNFCCC, WMO, IPCC, DG CLIMA), science (CERN), environment (UNEP, UNEP/MAP, EEA, GEO, Ramsar Convention, IUCN, Aarhus Convention, Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution) and technology (ITU).

She has extensive experience working within the EU framework as well as with developing countries, including the Western Balkans, the Southern and Eastern Mediterranean region, and Small Island Developing States (SIDS) in the Indian Ocean region.

She holds a Ph.D. in Climate Change Science and Management from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. An Italian national, Sara is fluent in French and English, and has limited working proficiency in Spanish and Portuguese.
